Made in Hackney is a nonprofit eco-community kitchen dedicated to promoting access to healthy, affordable food that is good for people and the planet.
Tour revenue will be invested in programs delivering vital cookery classes focused on healthy, plant-based eating to groups in need, such as low income families and individuals, people with long term health challenges, and marginalized communities.

Spend an afternoon perfecting your cooking skills in a Made in Hackney masterclass! Let their renowned cooking, baking, and nutrition teachers lead you in an action-packed, hands-on, uniquely-themed culinary class. Themes include sourdough bread making, gluten-free baking, gourmet vegan food, eating for optimum health, plant-based fitness, raw desserts and chocolate, raw food, live cultures & ferments, authentic Indian, Middle Eastern feasts, wild food, vegan Japanese, and more. Each class concludes with a delicious local, seasonal, and organic tasting and take-home treats!
This program can be adjusted for food allergies with prior notice. Please be aware that the kitchen is located downstairs and is not accessible by elevator.

Daphne enthusiasm for cooking a healthy lifestyle is plain to see by all. Spirit to is of the same vain. The course is wonderfully organise thought out simple way in cooking Caribbean Plant Based Cuisine You will not be disappointed in the slightest in taking this course.
Thanks so much to Spirit and Daphne for such a lovely Sunday afternoon! I arrived keen to learn more about Caribbean cuisine, but left with much more: a better understanding about the benefits of a plant-based diet, ideas for delicious vegan substitutes for honey, cheese (and even salami!), and great conversations with like-minded people. The session was relaxed and interactive from the start, with a good balance of demonstrations and tasks for us to do in the kitchen. Spirit made a wonderful 'sip soup' to whet our appetites as we cooked, and it was very satisfying to sit down and enjoy a meal together at the end (particularly THAT mango cheesecake!) Thanks both, would highly recommend!
First of all, the event was great fun! Both Daphne and Spirit led the workshop very well and with great humour. The other participants were also very friendly. Chopping and stirring together under the expert guidance of Spirit and Daphne we all cooperated to make a delicious, super-healthy meal. Although Chris and I cook a lot of international food, we had never cooked a Caribbean meal from scratch. It was really interesting to see the whole process and to find out what spices are used, hear the history of ingredients etc, first hand. Much better than just reading from a recipe book. The food was abundant, fresh and vibrant, live food indeed! Sitting down to the communal meal afterwards was a joy, sharing gorgeous vegan food in such a friendly relaxed atmosphere was really the perfect conclusion to a perfect event. Thank you very much, Daphne and Spirit, for making us so welcome and leading such a joyful, inspiring class. Very, very highly recommended indeed!
This was such a great experience - my first time to try cooking Caribbean cuisine and I couldn't think of a better teacher than Spirit - he and Daphne were so friendly and welcoming and created a lovely atmosphere. I'm new to vegan cooking and was fantastic to get the chance to learn some new recipes. Although I'm a native Londoner I've never had the chance to eat Ital food before and so if felt like a really special experience. If you're visiting London I'd definitely so don't miss the chance to visit this place - and it's all for a good cause too - win win!
Just around the corner from Stoke Newington station, in the basement of a quaint little health food store, I found myself in a Caribbean paradise. The delicious aromas that greeted me were followed by exotic sights from ackee to cassava- coconut milk to plantain. In the middle of this stood our host for this discovery of Caribbean plant-based cuisine, Spirit, with his infectious laugh and laid-back style. His co-host, Daphne was organised, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We were small group, a mix of couples and singles, international, friendly warm and welcoming. This is an informal, hands-on experience, that ended with a feast of the dishes we had prepared. Very interesting and great fun, I didn't want it to end.
This was a great way to spend few hours on a Sunday morning. Daphne & Spirit are the perfect hosts (think comedy duo or an old married couple ;) ) we learned so much about Ital cooking and culture and dining together at the end was great. Thank you!
Super friendly, fun and informative this is a great 'mini food adventure' especially if you like to meet new people. The food was delicious, and Daphne and Spirit were really passionate and engaging.
Spirit and Daphne were great hosts and the class was a lot of fun. We learned new dishes, got a lesson on Ital cooking and tried new ingredients (ackee!). Made in Hackney also does great work in the neighborhood, so you are supporting a good cause! We would definitely recommend this class and hope to attend others in the future.
Spirit and Daphne were friendly and knowledgeable. This workshop is informal and hands-on - the food was delicious and we all came away from the course having made some new friends. The fact that it's a social enterprise makes it even better! Would definitely go again.
