Tour Description

Take a day trip from Amsterdam and visit the vibrant city of Leiden while learning about plastic pollution in our oceans. Leiden is home to Leiden University, one of the oldest and most prestigious academic institutions in Europe, as well as a historic inner city with beautiful canals and a myriad of cultural activities. Participate in an engaging workshop with By the Ocean We Unite in which you’ll gain insight into how plastic pollution on the streets and in the canals is connected with the saturation of our oceans with plastic, what consequences this plastic has on organisms and the environment, and what you can do to prevent more plastics from ending up in our oceans. Pick up some tips on how to decrease your plastic consumption and embrace more eco-friendly habits.

Then, discover some of Leiden’s most iconic spots on a unique walking tour. Start in De Kooi, the workers district in the north, and make your way down the tree-lined streets to the historic city center. While on the walking tour, you’ll also have the chance to help By The Ocean We Unite with a plastic cleanup. This cleanup will help you see firsthand the impact plastic has on our environment and put into action the principles you learned earlier.
