Tour Description

This tour is perfect for anyone interested in expanding his or her creative outlet! The tour will provide you with an off-the-beaten-path look at the Githurai community. Additionally, you will witness how people in the village make a living and make ends meet.

Your backpacking adventure begins in Githurai after being picked up from the airport. The distance from the Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Githurai is 31.8 kilometer and takes 57 minutes by bus and 26 minutes by taxi.

Then, with Githurai Community Projects as your guide, take a walking tour of the village and immerse yourself in daily life here. Explore local sports and art, learn about the various economic empowerment/entrepreneurial activities community members are involved in, and participate in environmental conservation efforts like tree-planting. Visitors will also explore various traditional farming activities and witness different local farming techniques such as fish farming, beekeeping, and livestock keeping.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience authentic Kenyan cuisine as they help locals prepare and eat delicious African dishes like bone soup, soared milk, and fermented wine. Later, wind down your evening around the bonfire, chatting and telling stories before heading to bed. Your tour ends in the morning on day 2.
