Tour Description

Experience Mumbai through a local perspective with the Gabriel Project Mumbai (GPM). Explore the Mumbai neighborhoods GPM works in, and visit one of their classes. Tour the project's clinic, the only healthcare center in a neighborhood of 200,000 inhabitants. Get to know the mission of GPM, which provides warm meals to vulnerable schoolchildren in underprivileged areas of Mumbai, offering immediate hunger relief and an incentive for parents to educate their children rather than send them to work. Learn about their initiatives, including the innovative “eat to learn” program.

In the second part of the tour, participate in a fun paper-recycling activity. Next, travel by rickshaw to a soap-recycling/women’s empowerment workshop where you’ll learn how to make your own soap. A short walk will then bring you to the women’s kitchen, where women prepare hot food for hundreds of children attending school instead of being forced to work. Learn about Indian cuisine and cooking, and enjoy a light lunch they’ve prepared.

The slum tour was very informative as well as heart breaking. The work the volunteers do is a blessing to the people it affects and a wake up call for myself and others that have more.Thank you for being a blessing and a light for those people.

You may have heard of Dharavi, but Kalwa is a 'real slum' - with people arguably in much greater need and support. Witnessing the work of the Gabriel project was inspiring and a real eye-opener to the 'other side of Mumbai life'. I'm really glad I made time to go and see the important work that they are doing in Kalwa.

Tour Start Address
