Tour Description

See Athens from a different perspective. Learn about the most important organizations that provide social services such as soup kitchens, shelters, clinics, day centers, drug-rehabilitation centers, grassroots initiatives, and more.. But, the most significant part of the tour is the personal narrative that each guide shares with the participants. It's a unique opportunity to meet, discuss and interact with people who have been hit the hardest by the current social and economic crisis, hear and learn from the story of an ordinary citizen, who lost everything virtually overnight. These are tours about human stories that must be told, they are tours about overcoming stereotypes and dealing with personal fears. One of the aims of the "Invisible Paths" is to raise awareness and mobilize the community in a common fight against poverty and social exclusion.
The Tour starts at Shedia's headquarters, where there will be a short introduction about our organization, mission, vision, and all of our projects. Take the opportunity to get to know us better, ask questions, and learn about our actions to support our fellow citizens.
The tour ends at the Central Flee Market of the Municipality of Athens (Varvakeios Market) and it will continue in a nearby coffee shop with another of our projects. There will be a lunch break with coffee and snacks and discussions on the tour experience and other subjects that are related to our goals and projects as well as an opportunity to exchange ideas and offer suggestions.

Emilia Doukas and her team are doing a very difficult job in a country with big challenges. They displayed immense character and sincerely. I was humbled by the experience and it gave me a much needed perspective on assisting in the needs of communities compared to the pursuit of profit only based organisations which I own.

I really enjoyed and got a lot out of the tour. It was interesting to see a new perspective on Athens and the government's actions in order to combat homelessness. The tour guide was very informative and I could tell he had a lot of personal investment in giving the tour. He was able to answer all of our questions and showed us the places he frequented. I would encourage anyone to take this tour! (And play soccer!)

I really enjoyed the walking tour and thought that it was very informative. I would have never known about all of the places we saw or that the area had a lot of drug use if not for the tour. The personal stories that were shared helped to give a greater insight into homelessness in Athens.
