Tour Description

The "Native Fruit" itinerary is set in Vale da Fartura - which literally means ‘Valley of Plenty’ - in the countryside of Paraibuna (State of São Paulo), an area rich in biodiversity, historical and cultural heritage. Visit three properties: JJ Land, Sítio do Bello, and JM Place.
The first is a place of preserved springs and natural pools among the forest, where milling and traditional manufacturing of sugar cane take place. Learn about the production of brown sugar, molasses, cachaça (the most famous alcoholic drink of Brazilian origin).
Mr. do Bello will guide you along the walking paths inside his wonderful agro-forest beside a river, where endemic Brazilian fruit grow among 6,000 trees of the Atlantic forest. The youngest trees are cultivated inside do Bello’s greenhouse while the pulps of native fruit are processed for alimentary use in his homely kitchen-lab. Experience a typical rural lunch in the middle of the countryside, at JM Place. Those interested in local history will enjoy the little museum about rural life, prepared by the residents with their own family ‘relics’.
Take some time for sightseeing in the historic center of Paraibuna, a lovely town with buildings dating from the late 19th century. A range of interesting souvenirs can be found at its Municipal Market and Craftsman House. At the conclusion of our tour, try local treats (such as cheese bread, mandioc biscuits, corn cake, fruit jellies and cheese) during a traditional viola concert at Chão Caipira Coffeehouse.
